THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR
What Lies Beyond: Mira's Worries
This scene was axed for a few reasons.
One, Chapter 9 was exhausting and I didn't have the patience for this scene.
Two, this scene felt extraneous. Mira has plenty of more interesting moments of this nature.
Three, I had no idea where to go with it. Besides, the transition worked much better without this pointless drivel!

Mira crawled back into her pod and rolled over onto her back, sighing. She'd still been sleepy when she'd staggered to the bathroom seven minutes ago, but after an awkward run-in with Adam, her mind was buzzing. And when she closed her eyes, her mind only buzzed faster with concern. So now, it seemed, his sleeplessness was hers now as well.
She'd heard him toss and turn, mutter to himself, and sigh at odd hours of the morning. As surprised as she was to find Adam up and about at 4:30, it wasn't an entirely unexpected move. She'd had hope for his insomnia for a while--- the past few nights he'd slept well enough. But the shadows beneath his eyes this morning gave away how little sleep he'd gotten that night. Sleep he should have been getting that very hour. He could try to play it off as being all good, (...)
She'd thought they'd talked this through. It wasn't that Mira thought Adam didn't still want to get home as soon as possible, even if he had (for a while) toned down from the anxious mess he'd been the first few days. Heck, the first week. Mira wasn't sure how many weeks it had been since then--- the days all blended together into a monolith of gray walls, endless doors, panels, food, and sleep. All she knew was, before those other kids appeared, Adam had been doing well.
Now he was, well... less so. It wasn't unlike Adam to get into a bad mood when he was stressed or preoccupied. In this case, he was both. Yes, it wasn't unlike Adam to get moody and distracted when there was a lot on his mind. But this sleeplessness of his set off all the worry-bells in Mira's head.
