Sketch Once Said...
A new familiar face interrupted Derek's silent reminiscence, marching into the room like he owned the place--- and he did. Six-foot-five and lanky, in a light blue denim vest and a black t-shirt printed with a neon green version of his band's logo. Dark hair, tipped toxic green, poked out from beneath a dark gray cap embroidered with a skull. His narrow, angular face split open with a warm, dimpled smile. "Derek, hey! Good to see ya, dude."
Derek smiled; the tense air had been broken. "What's up, Sketch?"
Sketch ambled into the kitchen, eyes glued to the pizza. "Nothin' outta the ordinary." He snatched up a slice of Derek's pizza. "Pineapple, huh? Man after my own heart." He took a big bite.
Reina pinched her temple. "You've got to be kidding," she murmured. "My own boyfriend..."
Derek smirked and waved his half-a-slice. "You're missing out."
"Yeah... on really strange-tasting pizza." She finished her slice of cheese. "Besides, that pizza has meat on it. I'm a vegetarian now, remember?"
Derek chuckled. "Well, you never did like meat."
"Don't worry, bud. She hasn't converted me," Sketch laughed through the pizza. "I still make myself bacon and eggs in the morning. And a vegetarian meal for Reina."
Reina laughed. "Don't mislead my guest." She smirked at Derek. "He eats the vegetarian meal too."
Sketch shrugged. "Hey. I wouldn't cook ya anything I wouldn't eat myself."
"Or anything you wouldn't feed that dog of yours." Reina barked a laugh. "Seriously, Sketch. Stop giving Patch waffles."
"He likes waffles," Sketch insisted, folding his arms. "Especially when I make 'em with bacon bits."

Sketch muttered to himself from the living room, hunched over his laptop with his hands at rest by the keyboard. He stared wide-eyed into the screen, unblinking. Derek raised an eyebrow. "Uh... is Sketch all right?"
"Oh, he's fine," said Reina. "He's just working on a new song. Don't freak out if he starts screaming, shouting, or otherwise; it's all part of the process for him."
Derek chuckled. "I see."
As if on cue, Sketch began belting out his lyrics in a harsh, raspy tenor voice. "Ruuuun like the wiiiind, stunner, can't get away from me!" Then he muttered about it being the wrong melody and ran off to grab his guitar from upstairs.
Derek smirked, while Reina burst into a laugh. "See? I told you so."

A familiar long-legged, green-haired figure darkened the shop's doorway, one hand deep in his vest pocket and that perpetually-tired frown on his face. He pinpointed the pair's location and strode toward them.
Reina waved, smirking at her approaching boyfriend. "Hey. Finally decided to join our quest?" she teased.
Sketch's frown tightened. "No. I'm here to talk some sense into you guys." He pulled up a chair and sat down at the end of the table. His eyes locked with Derek's. "What do you think you're doin', investigating Master Games? And you're draggin' Reina into this too? You gotta be crazy, man!"
Derek narrowed his eyes and stared firmly back at Sketch. "I'm going to expose this company for what it is," he said. "I know they had something to do with Rosanski's disappearance. I need to know what happened to him."
"So what? It ain't worth the risk," Sketch argued. "If Master Games can make a high-profile guy like Max Rosanski disappear, they can dispose of a couple nobodies too. Easy." He glanced at Reina, who had been giving him an evil eye throughout the exchange. He set his hand on hers with an apologetic smile. "Not that you're a nobody, Reina..."
"I've made up my mind to do this, Sketch," said Reina. She motioned across the table. "Derek is my friend, and I don't want him going at this alone if he doesn't have to. Safety in numbers, right?" She released a sad sigh. "Especially if Luc refuses to come through. He needs someone."
Sketch squeezed her hand, eyes radiant with concern. "I need you too, Rain. If I ever lost you..."
"Then join us!" urged Reina. She set her other hand on his. "Go one, go all?"
Sketch sighed, drawing his hand away. "Look. If you wanna do this, I'm not gonna stop you," he said at long last. "As for me... we can talk about it when we get home."

"Just eat the cauliflower, Luc," said Reina. "It's been marinated in broth; it's delicious."
Luc merely frowned at it.
"Wow. Sketch, this veggie-loaf is amazing." Derek hadn't expected it to taste this good, but it did. Color him impressed; the guy was a talented cook as well as a skilled musician.
Sketch, as big and tall as he was, smiled bashfully. "Psh. Thanks, dude."
Derek nudged Luc, who still had not eaten a single bite. "Dude. The veggie-loaf is actually great. Try it."
Luc let out a sigh and at last gave in, digging into the veggie-loaf.
Derek swiftly downed another bite. "So, when did you become such a great chef?"
Sketch shrugged and ate a cauliflower. "Well, when we started talkin' about livin' together, Reina reminded me she can't cook, or follow a recipe, or nothin'. But I gotta eat, so I learned a few vegan recipes and got pretty good at it."
"Sketch makes the best vegan food," Reina said, voice dreamy.
"Yeah!" Luc chimed in with sudden enthusiasm. He'd demolished the veggie-loaf and had now become eager to wolf down the cauliflower. "Really good!"
Sketch laughed, charmed by all the attention. "That means a lot to me. You bein' a foodie an' all."
"Well! I mean... it isn't quite gourmet, but it hits all the right spots." Luc continued to eat. "Ever consider cooking for a living?"
"Uh..." Sketch rubbed his chin, pondering the notion. "Well, I suppose if the band thing don't work I could run my own restaurant."
Luc raised his fork. "Something to consider. Though if you want my input, I'd be delighted to be your official food consultant. First taste of every meal, in exchange for feedback on how to make it even better..." He popped down another piece of cauliflower. "For a price."
Sketch chortled. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, OK? I'm still doin' the band thing."
Luc merely frowned at it.
